I studied History and Japanese Studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Osaka University, and Kyushu University, earning my Master of Arts in 2024 with a thesis on medical research conducted by Japanese doctors in Manchuria (1920–1945). During my master's studies, I was funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the DFG Research Training Group East Asian Futures.

I am interested in imperialism, the history of science, and the history of everyday life. My doctoral project, which hast the working title Plant Knowledge. A Colonial History of Knowledge between Germany, Japan, and Oceania (ca. 1880-1930), explores the transimperial history of kava (Piper methysticum), a plant that is traditionally used as a ceremonial drug in Oceania. In the late 19th century, kava attracted scientific attention in Germany and was subsequently used to produce pharmaceutical drugs in Europe, the US, and Japan.
